Berlin: Lighting Sambuca Shots at Sophieneck in Mitte

May 8, 2010 By Whitney Love 2 Comments

Sambuca is an Italian anise-flavored, usually colorless liqueur.

I tried Sambuca for the first time in Berlin last week at a bar called Sophieneck in Mitte. In Berlin, Sambuca is served with 2 coffee beans in it and is meant to be lit, then extinguished before you drink it. When you light the shot, it becomes mildly infused with the flavour of the coffee beans. Divine.

Hi, just posting to say that I’ve read your blog for a while and really enjoy it! I live in the same city as you and also write an occasional blog, please have a look: http://woolandwellies.blogspot.com/

It’s great seeing how positive you are about being a foodie in Norway, despite the cost and difficulty of finding specialist foods. Berlin is a fantastic place to eat too.
