On the Hunt for a Birthday Cake and Sweet Lady Jane

April 22, 2010 By Whitney Love Leave a Comment

I hit the big 3-0 in a few weeks and am looking for a bakery to make my birthday cake. I’ve found one bakery in Stavanger, but they can’t seem to return phone calls or emails. So the quest continues. . . .

Any suggestions?

All of this bakery hunting of course got me thinking about cake. . .and good cake. . .and really good cake. . .which of course made me think of Sweet Lady Jane in Los Angeles on Melrose Ave.

The last time I had kick buns cake, and I mean really kick buns cake, it was at this cute but seriously good cake shop on Melrose with some friends from college. We drove for almost 3 hours to get to this place-and yes I am serious about that-three LONG hot hours for cake. We’re werid, I know, and I was supremely skeptical but after one bite my skepticism was sidelined.

SLJ has catered weddings for a host of celebs-which is of course-all fine and dandy. But for me, the proof of their supremeness was in the er. . .um. . cake.

My Slice of Almond Roca-Very good, but also VERY rich.
