I live in Oslo and have just found a great recipe for poached salmon but the recipe is in Norwegian. It has some abbreviations for amounts that Google Translate can’t translate. The recipe calls for “2 ss soya saus”, how much soy sauce are they saying to use? And how about 3 dl? I guess that means deciliters, but I can’t seem to find that anywhere.
Dear Soy Sauced in Oslo,
According to the Doorway to Norway web site the abbreviation “ss” stands for spisekje and is equivalent to 1 U.S. tablespoon. So you’ll need 2 tablespoons. Soya saus is soy sauce in English and the Kikkoman brand can usually be found in most food stores. 3 dl is equivalent to 300 ml and most European bought fluid measuring containers measure in deciliters (dl) or 100 ml increments. Measure up to the 300 ml line and you should have what you need.
